YES Community Outreach
YES Community Counseling Center is dedicated to the value of prevention and outreach. As a result, we make a variety of preventive programs available to the community and local school districts; many are year-round or seasonal, but every effort is made to accommodate the needs of our community as they arise.
According to the US Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, for every $1 invested in effective substance abuse programs, approximately $18 is saved in future treatment costs, government spending, lost productivity, and overall quality of life. See complete study here.
We have designated staff available to speak to groups on topics pertinent to youth, family, and community needs. Technical training and staff development workshops are also available to school districts and organizations. Some of the past topics have included: Substance Abuse Prevention, Effective Parenting, Adolescent Sexual Activity, Bullying and Violence Prevention, Suicide Prevention, etc.
We are approved by NYS Dept. of Education to provide the state’s two hour certification training for mandated reporters of child abuse and neglect. Furthermore, our staff are prepared to provide trainings on a variety of issues, particularly those related to youth.
A valued component of our work, we maintain Board positions on the Chamber of Commerce for both Massapequa and Farmingdale and membership on the Levittown Chamber as well. The agency is also a part of the Drug & Alcohol and Youth Services Coalitions of Nassau County. We maintain an active role on Nassau County’s Heroin Task Force and are a member of the Suicide Prevention Coalition of Long Island.
Information & Referral
We hold an extensive list of resources throughout Long Island and are available to provide community members with information as it pertains to mental health and other issues.
We ensure that services are made available to any young person or family in crisis who walks in or calls the agency during office hours. 24 hour, 7 day resources are available through our partnership with the Long Island Crisis Center at (516)-679-1111.
Summer Parks Project
We provide an alternative activities and leisure time program during the summer in partnership with the Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County Police Dept (7th Precinct), and the Massapequa School District.
